LIPA customers who spent days or even weeks in the dark due to Superstorm Sandy are furious to see that they're still being charged for power usage on their latest bills.
Newsday says the problem is that LIPA uses an estimated billing system that charges customers for projected usage of the upcoming month. The projections are based on customers' previous power use.
The power authority says the charges will even out after customers' next meter readings. A spokesman also says customers can call 1-800-490-0025 to provide an actual meter reading for a possible adjustment.
