The Long Island Rail Road will offer extra trains and off-peak ticket pricing for the extended Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
Extra trains will roll eastbound on Wednesday, and on Thanksgiving Day extra trains will run to and from Manhattan to get riders to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, the railroad said. In addition, extra trains will travel to and from New York City on Saturday and Sunday.
The LIRR said it will offer tickets at off-peak prices for the four-day weekend, from Thursday to Sunday. The railroad's Family Fare Discount, which allows up to four children ages 5 to 11 to ride one-way for $1 when accompanied by a fare-paying parent or guardian, will be in effect for all four days; the tickets must be purchased before passengers board the train. Weekly and monthly ticket holders pay just for the children; children under 5 ride free.
On Wednesday, 11 extra trains will depart Penn Station on the following branches:
-- The 2:19 p.m. express train to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.
-- The 2:32 p.m. express train to Lynbrook, then all stops to Babylon.
-- The 3 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon.
-- The 3:31 p.m. express train to Rockville Centre, then all stops to Babylon
PORT JEFFERSON BRANCH
-- The 2:08 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Huntington.
-- The 2:29 p.m. train stopping at Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Jamaica, New Hyde Park, then all stops to Huntington.
-- The 3:24 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, Westbury and Hicksville.
PORT WASHINGTON BRANCH
-- The 3:40 p.m. train stopping at Woodside, Flushing/Main St., then all stops to Great Neck
Far Rockaway Branch
-- The 3:48 p.m. express train to Locust Manor, then all stops to Far Rockaway.
-- The 1:46 p.m. train stopping at Jamaica, Mineola, then all stops to Ronkonkoma.
-- The 4:06 p.m. express train to Westhampton, then stopping at Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton and Montauk
On Thursday, when a weekend-holiday schedule is in effect, 17 extra trains will be added for those traveling to and from the city, including six extra westbound trains in the morning and 11 extra eastbound trains through the afternoon. Cars will be added to select trains to accommodate holiday travelers, the LIRR said.
The railroad returns to a regular weekday schedule on Friday.
For Saturday and Sunday, the LIRR will add four westbound trains and six eastbound trains to its regular weekend schedule. These trains will continue for five additional weekends: Dec. 6 and 7, Dec. 13 and 14, Dec. 20 and 21, Dec. 27 and 28 and Jan. 3 and 4.
