For those wanting to get a head start on the Fourth of July weekend, the Long Island Rail Road is offering extra service Thursday afternoon from Penn Station.

The commuter rail service said 10 additional trains will depart from Penn Station between 2:22 p.m. and 3:48 p.m.

Four added trains are on the Babylon branch, three on the Huntington/Port Jefferson branch and one each on the Ronkonkoma, Far Rockaway and Port Washington branches.

Also, the LIRR is adding extra service to the East End for the weekend, starting on Wednesday.

The Montauk branch provides regular summer weekday service plus one extra train to Montauk leaving Penn Station at 5:09 p.m.

The branch also has regular summer service on Thursday and Friday, plus Cannonball trains leaving Penn for Montauk at 4:06 p.m. each day.

On Friday, there's also an additional extension train that normally ends its run at Patchogue. Customers can take the 9:22 a.m. Babylon train at Penn Station, changing at Babylon for the 10:27 a.m. to Patchogue, which will run to Montauk.

On Saturday and Sunday, the LIRR operates on a regular weekend schedule with a westbound Cannonball departing Montauk on Sunday only at 6:37 p.m.

Regular weekday service is offered to Greenport and the North Fork on Thursday and Friday, plus one change -- the 3:55 p.m. train from Penn Station connecting at Ronkonkoma for the 5:21 p.m. eastbound train making all stops to Greenport.
