Two Long Island Rail Road trains heading toward Penn Station were canceled Wednesday afternoon, causing short delays, a LIRR spokesman said.
A train departing from Huntington stopped in Hicksville at 3:53 p.m. after riders noticed a "smoky condition" caused by dust in one car, spokesman Sam Zambuto said. No problems were found with the train, he said.
The riders boarded another train 30 minutes later, and no other trains were delayed, he said.
At 5:47 p.m., a Ronkonkoma train was canceled at the Mineola station due to equipment problems that have not yet been determined, Zambuto said. Riders on that train had to wait about 35 minutes for another train, and the cancellation caused five- to 10-minute delays on scattered trains east of Jamaica, he said.
Service was back to normal by 6:30 p.m., Zambuto said.
