Crews will be installing new concrete ties on Long Island Rail Road tracks between Rockville Centre and Valley Stream, and weekend riders should be prepared for upcoming delays.
Schedules on the Far Rockaway, Hempstead, West Hempstead, Babylon, Port Jefferson, Oyster Bay and Montauk lines will be altered March 11-12 and March 19-20 while a crew using a track-laying machine complete the work along the 7-mile stretch, officials said.
On Friday, March 11 and Friday, March 18, one of the two main tracks between Rockville Centre and Valley Stream will close down at 10:11 p.m. It will reopen at 1:52 a.m. the following Monday.
During the closure, trains on the Babylon branch will run hourly instead of half-hourly, officials said. Buses will also replace service between some stations.
A complete schedule of the changes will be available online at www.mta.info/lirr and at local stations. The changes include departure delays for Far Rockaway, Montauk, Oyster Bay and Hempstead trains.
In addition to the schedule changes on the Babylon branch, the 1:23 a.m. train to Penn Station will not stop at Valley Stream, Rosedale, Laurelton or Locust Manor. Riders heading to those stations will take a bus from Rockville Centre.
Huntington-bound trains on the Port Jefferson branch will add stops at Forest Hills and Kew Gardens, and buses will replace LIRR service between West Hempstead and Valley Stream starting late on Friday.
