The Long Island Rail Road said it was operating on or close to schedule in and out of Penn Station during Wednesday’s morning rush hour after an earlier track condition in an East River tunnel had caused delays, cancellations and some diverted trains.
The track condition was reported to customers in emails and through social media just after 7 a.m.
Some trains were canceled at the Jamaica station, and others were diverted to the Atlantic Terminal or Hunterspoint Avenue stations.
Trains were affected for about two hours, during which time New York City Transit cross-honored LIRR fares.
About 9 a.m., the LIRR sent an email notifying customers that trains systemwide were on or close to schedule.
