LONG BEACH/Driver pleads not guilty to injuring bicyclist, 15

A Long Beach man pleaded not guilty yesterday to upgraded charges that he hit a teenage girl riding a bicycle in September and dragged her more than 600 feet.

German Guttierez, 49, is charged with first- and second-degree assault, aggravated vehicular assault, first-degree vehicular assault and other charges. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. His lawyer could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Gutierrez, driving a 2002 red Jeep Liberty east on East Beech Street, is accused of striking the 15-year-old victim as she rode near Edwards Boulevard on Sept. 5. Gutierrez dragged her and the bike about 600 feet, police said.

He registered a .30 percent blood-alcohol content, more than three times the legal limit, five hours later, prosecutors said. The victim suffered serious road rash injuries to her left side. -- Ann Givens

HEMPSTEAD/Bronx teen charged with killing man during robbery

A 17-year-old from the Bronx was ordered held without bail yesterday on a charge of killing a Freeport man during a street robbery in Hempstead.

Jazz Murphy of 820 E. 180th St. was arraigned yesterday in First District Court in Hempstead on a charge of second-degree murder.

The two were in an altercation on the corner of Linden Avenue and Linden Place about 8:10 p.m. Sunday when Murphy shot the victim, police said. A felony complaint filed by prosecutors said Murphy shot the man "once in the back and a second time in the head during the commission of a robbery." The victim was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 p.m., police said. His identity is being withheld, pending family notification, police said yesterday. -- GARY DYMSKI

MEDFORD/Coram man dies of injuries after ejection from ATV

A Coram man died of injuries Sunday night after being ejected from an ATV he was operating the day before, Suffolk police said yesterday. Gregory Jackson, 48, was pronounced dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said.

He was riding a 2006 Yamaha quad in the parking lot of his Medford auto repair shop when he lost control about 12:45 p.m. Saturday and crashed into a parked trailer, police said. He hit his head on pavement, police said. -- ELLEN YAN
