While Long Island's downtowns have evolved over the years, many of the shops have retained a vintage feel, and landmarks remind communities of their deep histories. The Farmingdale Theater on Main Street in Farmingdale sold movie tickets for 77 cents on Feb. 15, 1978. The theater opened on the corner of Main and Prospect streets in 1942, shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
