Short-term nightly closures of the Long Island Expressway between exits 32 and 52 will start Wednesday night as mobile crews work to clean and repair drainage structures and pipes on the expressway, the state Department of Transportation said.
The moving closures will happen in short segments on the LIE between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. starting Wednesday between the Nassau/Queens border (Exit 32) and moving to the Commack Road exit (Exit 52) in the towns of North Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Huntington and Smithtown, the department said.
"A single travel lane will be closed for a short distance on the LIE mainline and/or service roads in order to clean and repair the drainage facilities before moving on to the next drainage structure," the department said in a news release announcing the work. Work will begin near Exit 32 Wednesday night and "may alternate between the eastbound and westbound directions until the work is completed early this summer, weather permitting," the department said.
