Diana and Scott Lawlor, of East Setauket, had a little help and a slight push from their friends when they first met. Diana recalls that night.

My life changed forever on Dec. 16, 2000. That was the night I met Scott. A good friend of mine wanted me to go to Finley's in Huntington with her to meet the new guy she was dating. He was bringing along a friend to meet me. I didn't want to go until she finally convinced me it would fun.

When we got there, I saw the guys walking over to us and said to my friend, "That one better be mine," referring to Scott. He was so cute.

Well, we just hit it off right away. I was 24 and lived in Commack. Scott, 28, was from Northport. He was a really nice guy and so handsome; he reminded me of my father. When he later admitted that he, too, had to be talked into going out that night, I felt it was fate bringing us together. This was the man I was going to marry. I even called my mother and told her I'd met my future husband.

Within a week Scott asked me out on our first date. For our first Valentine's Day together, we went to dinner at Larkfield Pasta in East Northport, and Scott gave me roses.

Although I knew from that first night that he was my future husband, it took him a little longer to realize it. After three months of dating he told me he loved me, and after six months we moved in together. Scott proposed to me on a cruise to Jamaica, West Indies, in 2002.

We were married on Aug. 30, 2003, at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Church in Deer Park, followed by a reception at the Mediterranean Manor in Patchogue. We took a cruise to Bermuda for our honeymoon, but Hurricane Fabian kept us from docking on schedule. The ship had to stay out at sea until the storm passed over the island, but we didn't mind.

Scott is a plumber by trade and I'm a full-time homemaker and mother. We have two beautiful daughters. He is the best husband and father in the world, and I love him very much. This year we celebrate our 10th anniversary. I am so happy that we have each other and our wonderful family.
