2 arrested in Hicksville grocery theft

Two Queens men who police said attempted to flee a Hicksville grocery store with more than a thousand dollars worth of goods were arrested on Saturday afternoon.

Nassau County police said Patrick Robles, 33, and Michael Thomae, 25, were seen on surveillance cameras filling a grocery cart at the Super Stop & Shop at 530 W. Old Country Rd. before leaving the store without paying.

The two men were followed by store loss-prevention officers, who stopped them outside. The men were arrested by Nassau police after they tried to flee the scene, police said.

Robles was charged with four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and four counts of petit larceny.

Thomae, who police said nearly struck several people in the store's parking lot with his car as the duo attempted to flee, was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment four counts of fourth-degree grand larceny, four counts of petit larceny and five violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

Both men were arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead. Robles was ordered held on $68,000 bond or $34,000 cash bail, while Thomae was ordered held on $28,000 bond or $14,000 cash bail. They are due back in court on Wednesday.
