Five New York City residents -- three from the Bronx, one from Brooklyn and one from Staten Island -- were arrested Thursday in Valley Stream after Nassau County police said Bureau of Special Operations officers saw them "acting suspiciously" outside a TD Bank on West Merrick Road.
Police said an investigation determined the defendants had cashed fraudulent checks in excess of $500 at the bank.
Brian Ledbetter, 33, of 976 Tinton Ave., Gregory Allen, 22, of 730 E. 165th St., and Kevin Huffman, 25, of 184 Marion Ave., all in the Bronx, as well as Eric Arjune, 20, of 19 Duryea Place, Brooklyn, and Khadijah Harrison, 20, of 15 Hudson St., Staten Island, all were arrested at 2 p.m.
The five were in possession of a total of 20 fraudulent checks when they were arrested, according to police.
Ledbetter, Huffman and Allen each were charged with three counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument. Harrison and Arjune each were charged with 11 counts of the same charge.
All five face arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
