A description of the "getaway car" led police officers to arrest three Elmont men in a Hyundai on Thursday, moments after one of them had attempted to cash a fraudulent check at a bank in Levittown.
Arrested were Alex Tenadu, 18, of 1568 Miriam Ct., Vassileva Ubani, 18, of 8 Monaco Ave., and Justin Foe, 20, of 42 Buffalo St. Tenadu was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, while Foe was charged with one count, Nassau County police said. Police said Ubani, who was the driver, had an open warrant for robbery, as well as traffic violations.
All three are scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.
Police said that Tenadu entered a Citibank branch on Hempstead Turnpike just before 3 p.m. and attempted to cash a fraudulent check.
Thwarted, he fled -- but not before an alert bank employee spotted the Hyundai. That employee described the car to responding Second Precinct officers, who found the car in the parking lot and were able to conduct a traffic stop on Hempstead Turnpike near Hicksville Road. Police said the three were arrested without incident.
