All eastbound lanes of LIE in Melville reopened after dump truck mishap

A dump truck's empty bed became detached after the truck hit an exit sign and the base of a bridge Monday morning, closing at least one lane of the eastbound LIE in Melville for a few hours, Suffolk County police said.

The truck's driver was taken to Plainview Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

The right and center eastbound lanes of the Long Island Expressway at Exit 49 were closed, starting at about 8:30 a.m., police said. The center lane was reopened just before noon, and the right lane at close to 2 p.m., the state Department of Transportation said on its website, informny.com.

A police spokeswoman said an emergency call was received at 8:20 a.m. and that there were no reports of other injuries or other vehicles involved.

The entrance ramp to the eastbound LIE also was temporarily closed, the agency's alert said.
