Amityville man accused of attempted murder in Freeport shooting

An Amityville man suspected of shooting another man in Freeport earlier this month is facing three felony charges, including attempted murder, Nassau County prosecutors said Tuesday.

Elijah T. Melville, 23, of 10 Dixon Ave. is charged with attempted murder, assault with intent to cause serious injury and criminal possession of a weapon, according to court records.

He was remanded at his arraignment Sept. 10 in First District Court in Hempstead by Judge Douglas LeRose, who set bail at $1 million bond, $500,000 cash.

Melville is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 30.

Melville shot another man in the stomach and left arm at 9:11 p.m. on Sept. 3 at a Mount Joy Avenue home, court documents said.

He was arrested without incident Sept. 9 by Amityville police, who responded to an anonymous tip, according to a news release by the Amityville Police Benevolent Association.
