Ace might be the place with the helpful hardware folks.

But, in June a man walked into an Ace Hardware store on Merrick Road in Massapequa -- and helped himself to two chain saws worth more than $900, Nassau County police said.

Now police are searching for the man, who was caught on video surveillance stealing the items. And, they're asking the public to help them solve the crime.

Anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.

Police said the man entered the store at about 7:15 p.m. June 23, then stole two Stihl chainssaws valued at $919.90.

He fled in an unknown direction.

A surveillance photo released by police Wednesday shows the man, wearing shorts and a cap, holding one of the chain saws before fleeing.
