Nassau police have arrested an East Meadow man they said stole nearly two dozen payroll checks from his Freeport employer and steered funds into his own account through online transactions, a series of heists totaling $40,000 in losses.
Christopher Kilkenny, 30, of 279 Chambers Ave., while an employee at EZ Bath, took the funds between Feb. 1, 2014 and Jan. 3, and "through fraudulent means, prepared, cashed and deposited these checks into his personal business account," Crimes Against Property detectives said.
He was arrested Tuesday at his home.
Kilkenny, who is charged with 19 counts of possession of a forged instrument and third-degree grand larceny, is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead Wednesday. He was being held overnight, police said.
Neither Kilkenny nor his attorney could be reached for comment.
