Detectives are trying to determine what happened to a 2-year-old Bichon Shih Tzu when a Merrick home was burglarized early Monday, Nassau County police said.

The dog, named Cookie, either was taken by burglars or could have left through a front door of the Merrick Avenue home, police said.

Burglars entered the house between 10:30 a.m. and about 2 p.m. Monday, gaining entrance through a basement window, police said.

Taken items included a flat-screen television, assorted jewelry, a video-game system, an iPad, a cellphone, designer handbags, police said. Cookie, who was wearing identification tags, went missing.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-800-244-8477 or the Seventh Squad at 516-573-6753. All calls will be kept confidential.
