Cops: 2 charged in illegal fireworks sales

Two men were arrested Wednesday on charges of selling commercial and consumer-grade fireworks without licenses, Nassau police said Thursday.

Tobias Scott, 52, and Samuel Andujar, 45, sold six 3-inch aerial mortar shells, which are commercial-grade explosives, and 16 assorted consumer-type fireworks, the narcotics and vice bureau said.

Detectives also seized two assorted, consumer-grade fireworks at Tobias' Inwood home and 19 assorted consumer-grade fireworks from Andujar's vehicle, police said.

Tobias, of 14 Pearl St., Inwood, and Andujar, of Tobyhanna, Pa., were arrested at 7:40 p.m. at their homes, police said.

The defendants did not have a valid license to possess, store or sell the items, police said. They are scheduled to be arraigned Friday on charges under New York State labor law licenses and certificates, police said.

Police did not release the specific charges or other details.
