Cops: 3 men arrested in shotgun robberies

Three men have been arrested on charges of using a shotgun to pull off two separate robberies two weeks ago in Hempstead, police said Monday.

The men were arrested separately this weekend, after an investigation by Third Squad detectives and the Hempstead police department, Nassau police said.

Arrested were Shyrone S. Reape Jr., 19, and Fahiym Rodriguez, 17, of 305 Langdon Blvd., Lakeview; and Latise Eady, 17, of 45 Meeting Lane, Hicksville.

On Jan. 14, at 1:27 a.m., the three men pulled a 37-year-old man from the Dashing Dan Cab Co. cab he was driving on Grove Street in Hempstead, pushed him to the ground and pointed a shotgun at him, detectives said. They took an unspecified amount of cash and a cell phone from the driver before fleeing on foot, westbound on Grove Street, officials said.

On Jan. 16, at 12:50 a.m., the same three men pulled a shotgun on a man and a woman who were sitting in a vehicle on Elizabeth Avenue, Hempstead, and ordered them out of the car, police said.

They stole a wallet from the 47-year-old male victim and a cell phone from the 34-year-old woman, police said. The men then drove off westbound on Elizabeth Avenue in the victims' car, which was recovered a short time later in Hempstead on Long Drive at Front Street.

Each of the three men was charged with six counts of first-degree robbery, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and two counts of criminal use of a firearm, police said.

Reape and Eady were scheduled to appear Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead. Rodriguez was expected to be arraigned Monday.
