Cops: Customers show up, so would-be robber flees

A would-be robber fled a sandwich shop in Baldwin without any money after two customers entered the store in the middle of the robbery, police said.

The man, who was armed with a knife, fled the store.

The incident happened at the Subway restaurant at 1685 Grand Ave. at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nassau County police said.

No one was injured in the attempted robbery.

Police said the man entered the store armed with a knife, walked behind the counter and demanded cash. Before an employee could hand over the money two customers entered the store - and the would-be robber fled in a red two-door Honda or Acura, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
