Cops: DOT workers hurt as boat hits bridge

A state Department of Transportation worker had a broken leg and ankle and two of his colleagues had minor injuries after their boat struck a piling on the Point Lookout Bridge Tuesday, Nassau County police said.

The transportation workers were inspecting the drawbridge and attempting to dock the boat near the piling at about 1:15 p.m. when the boat shifted and pinned the leg of one of the workers, breaking his leg and ankle, the police spokesman said.

That worker, a 51-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital along with his colleagues.

The other two workers, both men, ages 62 and 39, had non life threatening injuries, police said.
