An unlicensed West Hempstead man apparently under the influence of drugs was arrested on Saturday evening after he crashed his car into several vehicles, then parked on the front lawn of a West Hempstead home, Nassau County police said.

Police said the driver, Leonard Dunne, 47, crashed his 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup truck into several parked cars and a moving vehicle on Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, prompting 911 calls from witnesses at 5:40 p.m.

Dunne then turned south on Nassau Boulevard, hitting more parked cars before stopping on the front lawn of a home, police said.

Police arrested Dunne, who appeared drugged, and transported him to a hospital for treatment of a broken nose and cuts to his face.

No one else was injured in the spree, police said.

Dunne was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, uninspected motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle and uninsured motor vehicle.

His arraignment will take place once it is medically practical, police said.
