Cops: Drunken driver called 911 on himself

A North Bellmore man who struck a guardrail on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway in Plainview Friday faces DWI and drug charges after he called 911 to report the incident, State Police said.

Andrew Marsh, 22, of Alice Court, was driving south on State Route 135 when police said he struck a guardrail on the right shoulder, at about 9:20 p.m. He exited on a ramp to the eastbound Northern State Parkway and then called 911, police said.

When a trooper responded, Marsh had bloodshot, watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol, a news release said. The trooper also noticed an open beer bottle and a marijuana pipe inside the vehicle, the release said.

Marsh failed sobriety tests and was arrested, police said. Police said they also found six lorazepam pills, an anti-anxiety medication, inside Marsh's car, a white Dodge.

Police also said Marsh provided a breath-analyzer reading of .17 percent.

He is charged with DWI, criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and several traffic violations, police said.

He is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on July 13.
