The right lane of eastbound Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown near Gardiners Avenue remained closed as of about 4 p.m. Thursday, Nassau County police said, after a midnight car crash knocked down power lines.
That crash forced a road closure in both directions that affected morning rush-hour traffic in the area, police said.
As of about 2 p.m., the power lines had been cleared, but "the damaged location requires some undergrounding work that LIPA will have finished by late afternoon," said a spokesman for the Long Island Power Authority.
Police said he was arrested and charged with drunken driving, though additional details were not immediately available. The identity of the driver has not been released.
