Cops: Elmont man charged with attempted larceny

An Elmont man who deposited a fraudulent check into his bank account, written for more than $8,000, was arrested and charged Monday with attempted grand larceny and forgery, police said.

Andre Thomas, 43, of 144 Elmont Rd., was also charged with resisting arrest, police said.

He deposited the $8,709 check on Sept. 2 at a Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union branch at 648 Hempstead Tpke., Franklin Square, Nassau police said.

Fifth Precinct police officers arrested Thomas at home Monday and as they tried to handcuff him he "struggled and flailed his arms in a dangerous manner in an attempt to escape and retreat back into his apartment," a police report said.

He was set for arraignment Tuesday at First District Court, Hempstead.
