Cops: Girl, 2, dead in Southern State crash

A 2-year-old girl was killed in a one-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway Sunday afternoon, police said.

A spokesman for the State Police said the vehicle crashed shortly before 5 p.m. on the westbound side of the parkway just west of exit 43.

He identified the driver as Tiayla Brooks, of Freeport, but had no further information on the victims. Brooks is 22, according to public records. Hospital officials said Brooks was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was treated and released. Westbound lanes were closed until 8:15 p.m.

Police were still investigating the cause of the crash Sunday night.
