Cops ID victim of E. Massapequa hit-run

Nassau police Wednesday identified the victim of a hit-and-run accident in East Massapequa as a 62-year-old Massapequa man.

Police are searching for the driver of a dark-colored sports car, possibly a Nissan 300ZX, that struck and killed Donald Herring Monday evening. Herring died at the scene, near the intersection of Merrick and Carman Mill roads. The accident occurred at about 8:50 p.m., police said.

Police said the man was crossing Merrick Road when he was struck by the eastbound car. The car then sped east on Merrick -- and crossed the line into Suffolk County, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the accident, the vehicle or the driver to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
