A visitor accused of trying to smuggle heroin, painkillers and other drugs into the Nassau County jail faces assault and narcotics charges after she resisted arrest Tuesday, police said.
Carmen D. Webb, 51, of Archer Avenue, Freeport, was waiting to enter the inmate visiting room at the Nassau County Correctional Center in East Meadow at 12:35 p.m. when a K-9 officer "was alerted to the defendant by his dog for positive narcotics," a Nassau County Police Department news release said.
"During a search of Webb she became combative causing injuries to two officers" who were treated and released at a hospital, the police said.
When officers searched Webb they found heroin, marijuana, seven Xanax pills, four oxycodone pills and eight clonazepam pills, police said.
Webb was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and six counts of promoting prisoner contraband.
She was arraigned Wednesday at First District in Hempstead and held in jail pending an $80,000 cash or bond bail
