Cops: Man, 25, shot and wounded in Lakeview street robbery try

A 25-year-old man was shot multiple times and wounded in an attempted street robbery early Sunday in Lakeview, police said.

Nassau County police said the victim, whose identity was not released, had just exited a black 2015 GMC sport utility vehicle on Tyler Road near Ronkonkoma Avenue when he was approached by the unknown assailant at 2:23 a.m.

The suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded cash, police said. Police said the victim ran to his SUV.

The suspect then fired "multiple shots," police said, striking the victim in the buttock, thigh and groin. The victim fled, flagging down Fifth Precinct patrol officers, who were handling an unrelated incident on nearby Woodfield Road. The victim was then transported to a nearby hospital via Nassau police ambulance for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
