Nassau police arrested a Jamaica man early Sunday on a range of charges after he crashed his vehicle in Valley Stream and tussled with officers, biting one on the hand.
According to authorities, Kevin T. Knowles, 28, of 111-33 168th St., was driving a Plymouth Voyager at a high rate of speed and erratically on Green Acres Road shortly before 3:15 a.m.
Police said when they attempted to pull him over, Knowles made a wide turn onto westbound Sunrise Highway, went into a ditch and struck several light poles before hitting a van near Hookcreek Boulevard, causing both vehicles to flip.
The driver of the van wasn't injured.
A struggle ensued when two officers approached, police said. Knowles attempted to wrestle the officers guns away and bit one on the hand. Knowles was taken to Nassau University Medical Center to be treated for injuries he sustained in the auto accident. The officer was treated for a cut.
Police charged Knowles with attempted robbery, resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, unlawful possession of marijuana and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations.
