Cops: Man flees Valley Stream police stop

A car chase and foot pursuit by police on the Southern State Parkway Tuesday ended in a car crash and the arrest of a Queens man, state police said.

Richard Young, 41, of 110-10 204th St., St. Albans, was arrested on several charges, including resisting arrest, possession of a forged Arkansas registration, criminal mischief, possession of marijuana and several traffic violations.

Young, who was driving a Toyota westbound on the parkway was stopped about 11:33 a.m. near Exit 16 in Valley Stream by a state trooper because he was seen changing lanes without signaling, state police said.

But as the trooper approached the car, Young drove off, and was pursued by police until Young's car left the parkway at Exit 13 and crashed into construction equipment, police said.

Young continued to try to escape on foot, police said, but was taken into custody a short time later.
