A 28-year-old South Hempstead man was arrested Tuesday and charged with the sale and possession of heroin, Nassau County police said.

Jonathan George, of 553 Christie St., was arrested on Pettit Avenue in Merrick at about 5:20 p.m., police said.

He was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

George was ordered held on $75,000 bond or $37,500 cash bail at his arraignment Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead, according to online court records.

Police said George sold heroin "to another" on two "unspecified dates" in Merrick and Lynbrook. It was not clear how much heroin was sold.

Police said George was arrested by Bureau of Special Operations officers, but did not detail what led him to be targeted for investigation.

George is due back in court Friday.
