Cops: Man stole cash from stationery store register

Nassau County police are looking for a man who stole money from a Valley Stream stationery store's cash register Saturday morning.

An employee at Charlene's Stationery at 343 N. Central Ave. said a man wearing gloves and a face covering came into the store about 8:40 a.m., according to a Nassau County police news release.

The employee watched the man walk behind the counter toward the cash register, police said, while the employee ran out the back of the store to call police.

Authorities said the man fled with cash on a bicycle heading north on Central Avenue.

The robber was wearing a purple-hooded sweatshirt, jeans, black and white sneakers, clear gloves and a scarf covering his face.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
