Cops: Man throws lawn ornament, punches in N. Bellmore fight

A North Bellmore man who tossed a concrete lawn ornament onto another man's car and then punched him out was also in possession of painkillers for which he did not have a prescription, Nassau County police said Thursday.

Joseph Muller, 24, of 205 Stephen St., faces charges of second-degree assault, criminal possession of controlled substance, criminal mischief and resisting arrest, First Squad detectives said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said Muller and another man, 49, were arguing at about 12:30 p.m. Monday when Muller threw the lawn ornament onto the hood of the man's 2003 Mustang.

Muller fled before police arrived. Later, at about 5:40 p.m., Muller returned to the man's home, continued the argument and then punched the victim in the jaw, causing him to fall to the ground, police said.

Muller continued punching the man in the face, but left again before police arrived, according to a news release.

When police tracked Muller to his girlfriend's house, she failed to disclose that Muller was there, police said.

After an investigation, Muller was arrested at his girlfriend's home at 12:53 a.m. Thursday and found with 172 oxycodone pills, police said.

His girlfriend, Anisha Bagchi, 18, of 2100 Ennabrock Rd., North Bellmore, was arrested on a charge of hindering arrest. She also is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
