Cops: Man tries to cash forged check at Merrick bank

A Bronx man was arrested when he attempted to cash a forged payroll check at a Merrick bank, police said Wednesday.

Keenan Johnson, 19, of 41 Hutchinson River Pkwy., was charged with possession of a forged instrument.

Johnson entered the HSBC Bank at 2160 Sunrise Hwy. about 1:50 p.m. Tuesday and attempted to cash a forged check in the amount of $914.81, police said.

The bank's manager noticed irregularities to the check, police said, and a check scanner indicated that it was forged.

Nassau Police were notified and Johnson was arrested at the bank.
