Cops: Pair involved in Southern State crash involved in previous car theft

Two men originally suspected of leaving the scene of an accident on the Southern State Parkway in Valley Stream Sunday night face robbery charges in New York City, State Police said.

Jackson Pierre, 20, of 1249 Ocean Ave., in Brooklyn, and Davian Brewer, 18, of 2756 Schlegel Blvd. in Amityville, were picked up by troopers about 11:40 p.m. after a report of a one-car accident eastbound on the parkway near Exit 13, Central Avenue.

The men first told troopers they were not involved in the accident, in which a gray Mercury was left unattended in the roadway, police said.

However, while being transported to the Valley Stream barracks, one of the men admitted to being the driver of the vehicle, police said.

When the owner of the Mercury was contacted, he told police the car was stolen earlier that night in Brooklyn. A cell phone and $300 in cash also were taken in a robbery, the car's owner said.

Pierre and Brewer were charged with criminal possession of stolen property, police said.

Both men will be charged for the robbery by New York City police, State Police said.

Arraignment information was not immediately available.
