Cops probe gunshot fired into bait shop

Police are searching for the person responsible for firing a gunshot through the storefront window of an Island Park bait shop on Friday night.

Nassau County police said they did not have a description of the vehicle used in the drive-by shooting, except that it was a sport utility vehicle.

The shooting occurred at about 9 p.m. at Ralph's Bait and Tackle Shop on Austin Boulevard, police said. The store was closed and unoccupied at the time and no one was injured.

Police said the bullet was fired from a northbound vehicle -- and said it went through the window, then lodged in a bookshelf against a back wall.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
