Cops probe robbery of Freeport card shop

A male at a Freeport card shop first asked for candy Monday morning, then demanded money from an employee by putting a knife to her neck, Nassau police said.

The robber went into the Curiosity Card Shop on Atlantic Avenue about 7 a.m. and approached the victim, 59, police said.

After asking for candy, he placed a large kitchen-type knife to her neck, and when she fell to the ground, the attacker took off, police said.

The victim's pocketbook was later reported missing, police said. She was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for evaluation, police said.

The robber appeared to be between 5 feet 6 inches tall and 5 feet 10 inches tall and wore dark clothing and a dark hat, police said. A police spokeswoman said she did not have information on whether the suspect was an adult or a teenager.

Detectives ask anyone with information to contact the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
