Cops seek 2 men who sold stolen car on Craigslist

Nassau police detectives said this photo, taken July

Nassau police detectives said this photo, taken July 8, 2015, shows one of two men who advertised a stolen car on Craigslist and sold it in Westbury.

Nassau detectives are looking for two men who advertised a stolen car on Craigslist and sold it earlier this month in Westbury.

Police said a 33-year-old man responded to the Craigslist ad online about the sale of a 2012 Honda Civic. He arranged to meet the sellers, who claimed to be the owners, at his house, where the sale was finalized on July 8, police said. The victim paid $8,000 for the car, police said.

Later, when he tried to register the car with the Department of Motor Vehicles, he learned he'd bought a stolen vehicle, police said.

During the sale, the victim used his cellphone to record video and photos of the men as they were showing him the car. Police are hoping to identify the suspects through the video and photos and ask anyone with information about this incident or who knows the identity of the suspects to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
