Cops: Slow driver charged with DWI

A Connecticut woman stopped Sunday for driving 30 mph under the posted speed limit on the Southern State Parkway in Hempstead faces a drunken-driving charge, State Police said.

Rebecca Correa, 38, of New Haven, was driving 25 mph westbound on the parkway near Exit 19, Peninsula Boulevard, at about 3:15 a.m., police said.

Troopers stopped her and detected "the odor of an alcoholic beverage," according to a news release. Correa also had "bloodshot and watery eyes," troopers said.

She failed sobriety tests and was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, police said.

Correa produced a breath reading of .10 percent, police said, over the legal limit of .08 percent.

She is charged with driving while intoxicated and traffic violations and is scheduled to appear May 25 at First District Court in Hempstead.
