Talk about cold.
The overnight blizzard that buried the metropolitan area and most of the northeast under at least a foot of snow didn't stop two robbers who offered to assist a motorist whose car became stuck on Plainview Road in Hickville early Monday -- then stole his wallet when they couldn't move the car, police said.
The robbery took place at 1 a.m. near South Gate, Nassau County police said. The two men then fled on foot.
No one was injured.
Police said the victim, a 27-year-old man, was driving eastbound on Plainview Road when his 2008 Toyota Prius became snowbound. Two men then approached the car and "offered to help him push the vehicle," police said.
"When they were not able to move the vehicle," police said, "one subject leaned into the window with his hand under his jacket and demanded the victim's wallet." They robbers took the wallet, police said, then ran off.
Police said they are searching for the duo -- and are asking anyone with information regarding the crime to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
