Cops: Student from Great Neck stabs father

A Binghamton University student from Great Neck stabbed his father "numerous times" in the face and head during a "family dispute" in a campus apartment, the upstate school said Christmas Eve in announcing the student's arrest.

Min Park, 20, a college junior, also wounded his mother and sister as they tried to break up Sunday evening's scuffle, Binghamton spokesman Ryan Yarosh said.

The university's police arrested Park at the on-campus apartment, Choconut Hall in the Susquehanna complex, and charged him with first-degree assault, a felony. He was ordered jailed without bail by a town justice in Vestal, where the school is located, Yarosh said.

A guard at the Broome County jail, where Park is locked up, said Park remained in custody Christmas Day. It couldn't be determined whether Park has an attorney representing him on the case.

Park's sister, mother and father went to Wilson Medical Center, in nearby Johnson City, where the father was in the intensive care unit after emergency surgery for his wounds, Yarosh said.

The school did not disclose the medical conditions of the sister or mother, nor release any of their names. Nor did a spokesman say what the dispute was over or why the parents were on campus. About a quarter of Binghamton University's students are from Long Island. The school is about a 200-mile drive from the Long Island-New York City border.

Friday was the last day of finals week and the end of fall semester.
