Cops: Taxi driver robbed in Roosevelt

Police are investigating a robbery that took place in Roosevelt on Saturday afternoon.

Nassau Police say that at 2:23 p.m. a 66-year-old man, a driver for Dawson Taxi, arrived at a residence on Willets Place to pick up a fare. There he encountered a male, 26 to 29 years old, who entered the cab from the rear passenger door, police said. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim's head, demanding money, police said.

Police said the victim handed the suspect cash and then the suspect struck the victim in his eye, using the gun and cutting him.

The suspect fled west on Elmwood Avenue, on foot. The victim was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released, according to police.

Detectives ask anyone with information to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
