A West Babylon man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident, State Police said Monday.
Keith Cuiffo, 45, of 303 15th Ave., was stopped Friday afternoon about 4:05 p.m. at Exit 21, Nassau Road, in Hempstead, driving eastbound on the Southern State Parkway. The stop was made, police said, after troopers received a radio call regarding a hit-and-run accident at Exit 18, Eagle Avenue, in Hempstead.
According to the police report, the trooper making the stop said Cuiffo had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and a strong smell of alcohol. The report also said he had an open bottle of Jack Daniels on the passenger front seat of a white Chevy Blazer.
Cuiffo provided a breathalyzer sample of .22 percent, police said, which is over the .08 legal limit.
He is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and drinking alcohol in a vehicle, police said.
He is scheduled to return to First District Court in Hempstead on March 19.
