Cops: Woman and toddler struck by car

A female pedestrian and her 3-year-old son suffered minor injuries Tuesday evening when they were struck by a vehicle in New Cassel, Nassau police said.

The mother and son were crossing Hopper Street at the intersection of Prospect Avenue at 6:25 p.m., police said, when they were hit by a 2003 Ford van that was making a left on to Prospect Avenue, according to police.

The woman, who suffered injuries to her elbows, and the child, who had a bruise on his head, were taken by ambulance to a hospital to be treated, police said. They have since been released.

Detectives said there was no apparent criminality on the part of the van's 37-year-old driver.
