An Elmont woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with stealing more than $11,000 from the Mineola law firm where she worked, police said.

Stephanie A. Amit, 25, of 263 Hunnewell Ave., Elmont, wrote out eight checks to cash from the firm of Giuliano, McDonnell & Perrone between March and July and deposited them in her personal bank account, Nassau County police said.

Amit, who was a secretary/bookkeeper, made false entries in the law firm's corporate records indicating the checks went to companies doing business with the firm, police said.

She was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of grand larceny and falsifying business records. She is due back in court Thursday.
