Couple hurt in Rockville Centre purse-snatch

Police are searching for a man who robbed an elderly couple in Rockville Centre on Wednesday evening, pushing an 80-year-old woman to the ground -- stealing her purse.

The robbery happened behind stores on Sunrise Highway, near the intersection of Sunrise and North Park Avenue, at about 7:30 p.m., Nassau County police said.

The suspect approached the woman, who was walking with her 83-year-old husband, pushed her to the ground and stole her purse containing credit cards, cash and keys, police said. Police said the husband attempted to chase the suspect -- but tripped and fell.

The woman and her husband were both taken by North Shore Ambulance to an area hospital, where they were treated for facial lacerations.

Police ask anyone with information regarding the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
