Couple's fight ends with officers hurt, police say

A Howard Beach man and his girlfriend were arrested Sunday night after a fight in the parking lot of a Valley Stream gas station that left two responding officers with minor injuries, Nassau police said.

The incident occurred just before midnight at a Shell gas station on Merrick Road, police said.

Arrested were Allan Gillett, 24, of 156-42 76th St., Howard Beach, and his girlfriend, Kristina Mastropietro, 27, of the same address.

Gillett was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of resisting arrest and with obstructing governmental administration. Mastropietro was charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, police said.

Police said Fourth Precinct officers on routine patrol saw Gillet and Mastropietro arguing in the gas station parking lot -- and saw another man and woman involved in a separate, unrelated, argument at the same time in the same lot.

Police said the officers managed to calm the other couple, convincing them to leave the scene without further incident. But police said when the officers attempted to calm Gillett he "refused all verbal commands" and then, when officers finally elected to handcuff him, he resisted that, as well.

And, police said, when Mastropietro saw the officers attempt to cuff her boyfriend she intervened -- pulling at the officers' hands as they tried to place Gillett under arrest.

At some point during the incident, police said a struggle ensued and Gillett and an officer, whose identity was not released, fell to the ground.

One officer was later treated for a shoulder injury, while a second officer was treated for a minor eye injury, police said.

Gillett and Mastropietro are both scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
