Police seek two men

linked to shooting

Suffolk police are asking the public for help in finding two men they believe shot and killed a 23-year-old Wyandanch man Sunday night when the man and a friend came home from a convenience store.

The assailants were waiting in the back of the house on 13th Street where Roman C. Taylor rented a room, said Lt. Gerard Pelkofsky, commander of the Suffolk Homicide Squad.

Taylor and his friend, whom police did not identify, ran into a vestibule just inside the house, Pelkofsky said. One of the men fired a single shot that struck Taylor in the head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His friend was not hurt.

The two intruders ran off, Pelkofsky said.

Several tenants were in the house at the time of the shooting, about 11 p.m. Sunday, Pelkofsky said. Police were questioning them Monday.

Man killed when struck

by LIRR train at platform

A 45-year-old man was on the Mineola train station platform yesterday when he was struck and killed by a train after he leaned forward and made contact with it, LIRR officials said.

As an eastbound train began leaving the station about 2:15 p.m., the man's head made contact with it and he then fell forward and his body made contact with the train, officials said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's name was being withheld pending notification of family.

Sam Zambuto, a LIRR spokesman said, "MTA police are continuing to investigate the incident, but the preliminary MTA police investigation indicates that the incident appears accidental."

Service was suspended between Jamaica and Hicksville on the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches, resulting in delays of up to 90 minutes, Zambuto said, and there were delays on the Oyster Bay branch of about a hour.

A Brooklyn man has been arrested and charged with drunken driving and going the wrong way on the Meadowbrook Parkway, State Police said Monday.

Troopers were dispatched to the Meadowbrook at 1:31 a.m. Saturday for a driver traveling north in the southbound lanes. Just south of the Southern State Parkway exit, police said, a northbound blue Chrysler Pacifica was seen.

The troopers went to the next turnaround, halted southbound traffic and then were able to stop the Pacifica.

The driver, Todd Follins, 48, of 10th St., Brooklyn, had bloodshot, watery eyes, smelled of alcohol and was unable to keep his balance when exiting the vehicle, police said. Follins provided a breath analyzer sample of .22 percent, police said. The legal limit is .08.

Follins was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and several vehicle and traffic violations, police said.

He was released on $3,000 bond or $1,500 cash and is due back in court Tuesday.
